Ellen Chenoweth
Ellen Chenoweth is a savvy and seasoned culture worker with 20 years of experience in the arts and culture sector. She is currently based in New York and Philadelphia. Ellen has been a director of finance and operations, a managing director, a director of development and marketing, and sundry other titles; a through-line is a deep joy in creating, sustaining, and improving platforms for artists to share their work and connect with others. Ongoing interests include accessibility, financial literacy and empowerment for artists, and institutional cultures and histories.
For five years, she worked at the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago as the Lead Curator and Director of the Dance Presenting Series and as a faculty member in the dance department. She began her career at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in the education department and helped lead the Dance Exchange through a founder transition.
She serves as board treasurer for Philadelphia’s Cannonball Festival, board member for Agile Rascal Bike Theatre, and is the inaugural Board Member At-Large for the American College Dance Association.
Ellen is also a writer, editor, and copyeditor, with a chapter in the forthcoming Dancing on the Third Coast (eds. Lizzie Leopold and Susan Manning, University of Illinois Press), and a book focusing on the lifecycles of arts nonprofits (under contract with University of Akron Press, co-editors Lizzie Leopold, Ellen Chenoweth, and Joanna Furnans).
Ellen Chenoweth holds a BA from Rice University, an MA in Dance from Texas Woman’s University, and a Graduate Certificate from the Institute for Curatorial Practice in Performance at Wesleyan University.
